Betty Comer, Owner
Betty Gibson Comer founded Gibson’s Music in 1969. A single mother with limited resources, Betty began her business in a space of 500 square feet, with only a few pianos on consignment from the local Baldwin dealer, and a small selection of sheet music and accessories. To help make ends meet, Betty taught piano lessons to 50 students who paid her $2.00 per lesson. Fast forward 46 years – Gibson’s Music is a full-line music store, occupying 8,600 square feet of retail space on Main Street in Corbin, KY. Gibson’s Music offers a broad range of Kawai, Pearl River and Hailun pianos, Kawai, Yamaha and Korg digital keyboards, Hammond Organs, and various brands of stringed instruments, including Taylor and Yamaha.
Betty has played piano since childhood, and was supported in her love for music from an early age by her beloved father, Oscar J. Brock, Sr. His love, devotion and encouragement sustained her as she continued her music education. Betty had the privilege to study piano for several years with the esteemed Dr. Nell Moore at Cumberland College (now known as the University of the Cumberlands). Betty abides by the Golden Rule in all her business dealings, and word of mouth advertising has spread her reputation for quality products and service far beyond the Corbin area. It is not unusual for customers to travel hundreds of miles to do business with Betty, who credits her success to her love of music, persistence and hard work, and God’s generous blessings.
